Happy first month little Lucia

Our little Lucy is turning one month tomorrow. Wow, one month already!

Sometimes it feels like time is flying by (when she's peacefully sleeping in your arms) and other times it feels like it is taking forever (when she's frantically screaming her lungs out).

Oh well, one thing is for sure: Belinda and I (to a lesser degree) have been scoring tons of patience points these past few days. Our little Lucy was diagnosed as a "Gourmet Feeder", literally. She used to take forever to feed, which made her swallow lots or air bubbles and made our lives as new parents a little more challenging than we expected.

A week ago Lucia met her abuelitos (grandparents) from Mexico who came to visit their first grandchild. She's been sung pretty much all Mexican lullabies by her abuelita and bathed almost every evening by her abuelito.

We went to see the pediatrician this morning who confirmed to us she's a very healthy baby, weighing 9lbs 6 oz, at the 60th percentile. As her nana would say "Not too baaaad". This morning we had a bittersweet moment when we realized her newborn suits are starting to look too stretched on her and she wore her first 1-3Mo outfit today.

This afternoon we took advantage of a lovely day in Portland and visited the Rhododendron gardens again because my parents had never been there. It was in bloom and we had an amazing time.

Week 2, check.

One paycheck.  360 hours. 21,600 minutes. Lucia.
All total 15 days.

Happy 15th day anniversary Lucia. One of many, many more to come. Exactly 5 minutes ago my baby turned 15 days old. I will most probably look back in 15 years and ask the same question: what happened to all this time?

Belinda and I have been blessed to watch our little Lucia grow in front of our eyes. She's more awake every day, she started smiling (true smiles, not gas smiles) a few days ago. I think she recognizes our voices, especially Belinda's, which means is milk time. Yipee!

Here's one of her faces that we absolutely love: ladies and gentlemen, the milk coma face.

Even though we have had a few rough-ish nights with a little screaming and crying, it has been an amazing first two weeks. Nana Glenda has been instrumental for Belinda and I to enjoy this time as much as we have. She's been helping with Lucia at night, grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning, doing laundry, etc. I am sure we would have made it just fine without her, but I can guarantee you she has made our experience as first-time parents an amazing and unforgettable one. There are no words to thank you enough for being here with us.

So after living in Portland for almost ten years, yesterday we finally went to the Rhododendron garden in SE Portland. It was a spectacular evening and we took pictures to our hearts' content. Lucia slept all the way through as we rocked her in her stroller over the bumpy paths of the garden. As we are slowly learning, we decided not to wake her highness up just to take pictures. Otherwise we would have ended with a pretty upset screaming child. Hence, no garden pictures of her. But here's one from Ms. Lucia's entourage (they are big fans and always follow her wherever she goes):

Did I mention she seems to like music? Or at least her musical taste is so new that she even tolerates my guitar playing. I've been taking advantage of her lack of mobility and for the first time ever I found the best captive audience. I can sit down and play for her until milk thoughts hit her and then her full attention turns to Mommy. There go my 5 minutes of fame. But I will take them anytime (and yes, I always pull faces when I play the guitar, I can't help it).

Anyway, that's it for this week's post. Stay tuned for future posts. We are taking her for the first time to church tomorrow and we are hoping she allows us to stay a little while to say hi to everyone as I am sure a lot of people will be happy to meet her for the first time. I will report next week how that went. Also, she gets to meet her Abuelitos in person on Thursday. My parents are flying in the day after Glenda flies back so the spoiling of both Lucia and us will continue. Sweet!

Have a good weekend.
